Today's post is a Guest Realization brought to you by Brittney Sutherin of T&B Blog.
It is the first in The Real[ization] Blog's series called "What's Your Discovery," a monthly feature of readers and the wider community of Realizers!
I am a 19-year-old college freshman. My entire year is about realizing new things.
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have opportunities presented to me: trips, meetings, experiential learning... just to name a few.
In college, these opportunities are still there; I can go to the study abroad office and take a trip. I can pick the times of my class and how late I want to sleep in. I can do all these things.
But I have realized that to be successful in my terms of success, I must seek out and provide opportunities for myself.
This realization came about when a 9-day class trip to London and Paris that I was so excited about got cancelled.
After a day of sulking, I realized that my ability to go to London shouldn’t be dependent on a class trip that isn’t happening anymore.
So I got out my computer, started looking for internships in London, around England, anywhere I could find.
I decided that if I could find an internship that would take me to London, I would go to London myself.
Ever since then, I have been more aggressive in what I do daily to achieve my dreams with my blog, too.
For example, I reached out to three bloggers about a collaboration. I have been able to see that if I continue down my path, I can achieve what I see myself doing for my career.
And being a travel blogger is the only thing I can see myself truly enjoying now, so I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen.
That is, everything except waiting for it to happen for me.
The Real[ization] Blog's Take:
Loved this idea! Being PROACTIVE is the only way to achieve what you want. Instead of waiting for your class to organize the opportunity for you to go to London, you took the bull by the horns and made it happen for you--just like you did with creating a blog in high school.
This is how I try to live my life, too! Wishing you all the best! <3
